Atlanta’s got a strong showing of family excitement for this first official weekend of summer. You’ll find 80 tons of sand on Ponce for Decatur’s annual Beach Party, families pitching tents by the dozen at the Great American Backyard Campout at Chattahoochee Nature Center, and loads of quality family theater all over town. Decatur

Decatur Beach Party
Kick-off summer Decatur-style at The Decatur Beach Party with pop-up performances, a DJ, live music, a sandy “beach,” and more. Best of all, admission is now FREE. Don’t forget to gather up those sand toys because there will be 80 tons of sand on Ponce De Leon Avenue. Great American Backyard Campout at Chattahoochee Nature Center
Have you ever wanted to camp out in the great outdoors but stay close to home? The Chattahoochee Nature Center has you covered! Along with camping, you will go on a guided night hike, have an up-close experience with a rehabilitated animal, and wrap up the evening with marshmallows roasting over a campfire. Pack a picnic, bring the camera, and drive the family to CNC’s summer Backyard Campout—but don’t forget to register in advance.
