Atlanta Kids Weekend Events: November 15-17
Load up the sleigh with your little elves as we have a weekend fun of family-friendly fun coming your way. Stay up a bit past bedtime to take in Garden Lights Holiday Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Garden or Magical Nights of Lights at Lake Lanier Island Resorts. Shop smart and hit the school art marts at Paideia or Northside Methodist Preschool to check off your holiday shopping early. Get some fresh air at The Rock Ranch’s Be Farm Strong day or enjoy the crisp night air with the Autumn Owl Prowl at the Chattahooche Nature Center.
Garden Lights Holiday Nights
Imaginary Worlds brightens the glow of the third annual extravaganza featuring a million lights. Earth Goddess transforms into an icy vision of wintry radiance with twinkling lights weaving through her tresses. The Cobras are wrapped in red and white stripes, welcoming visitors as towering candy canes. Green lights trace hypnotic spiral patterns in the snakes’ majestic hoods. Look for a harvest of illuminated corn, brilliant bugs and the and the grand Poinsettia Tree. Sat. & Sun., 5 to 10 pm, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Ticket prices start at $17 for adults, $11 for children. Discounts for members and non-peak nights. Children under 3 are free. All ages. Magical Nights of Lights
Drive past illuminated scenes of Christmas and the holidays, and then stop at Holiday Village to eat, shop, skate, visit Santa, and take carnival rides during Magical Nights of Lights at Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Nominal charges apply to the Santa photos, amusement rides, pony rides and marshmallow roasting. Fri., Sat. & Sun., 5 pm, Lake Lanier Islands Resort, $60 per vehicle. All ages. Event details.
Paideia School’s 31st Art Visions Artist Market
The Paideia School will host Art Visions, an annual indoor local artist market that includes paintings, sculpture, photography, fashion and home accessories, and gift items such as pottery, jewelry, candles, soaps and toys across a wide array of price points. With more than 80 returning artists, and 30 new artists, Art Visions 2013 will help you find something for everyone in a snap. Sat. & Sun., 10 am to 5 pm, Paideia School, Free. All ages. Northside Methodist Preschool Holiday Gift Show
The 29th annual Holiday Gift Show at Northside United Methodist Church has over 75 local crafters, artists and vendors displaying their beautiful, handmade work and talents. You will find rare, unique and special items for each loved one on your list this season. Fri. & Sat., 9 am to 4 pm, Northside United Methodist Church, Admission is $3 for ages 14 and up. Free. Be Farm Strong at The Rock Ranch
Don’t miss this farm heritage-themed day that will feature demonstrations about farming and agriculture and old fashioned skills such as blacksmithing, pottery, candle making, sheep to shawl spinning, cow milking and performances of traditional southern gospel music, photo pops with Veggie Tales characters, as well as farm themed obstacles and relays. Get amped for the “Veggie 500″ race where competitors build and race cars made of vegetables. Bring your blanket and enjoy a Veggie Tales movie after dark. Sat., 10 am to 8 pm, The Rock Ranch, $15, kids 3 and under are free. All ages. Event details.
Autumn Owl Prowl
Dress for the weather and enjoy an evening of stories, songs, and sounds of the park. Meet the evening’s special guest, an owl from the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Venture out on a guided night hike and listen for the night time sounds along the Chattahoochee River. Afterward warm up around the campfire. Don’t forget your graham crackers, chocolate bars, and flashlight! Sat., 6:30 to 10 pm, Chattahoochee River Environmental Education Center, Free. All ages. Event details.
