Summer is here and that means it’s time for us parents to find crafty ways to occupy the kids. Keeping them engaged, entertained and off the electronics is a fine art. If you’re are looking for some spots to stock up on supplies, check out these six Atlanta-area craft stores.

The Beehive
Looking to show some local love and support Atlanta artists? The beehive is Atlanta’s first handmade boutique collective.  Visit them in store and online for unique handmade items crafted by Atlanta artisans. Stop in with the littles to load up on supplies. They have a huge selection of craft classes and parties geared for the small set (and adults). From crocheting and jewelry making to potato stamping there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

Hobby Lobby
If you have a true DIY attitude, then hit this chain for crafters. Stocked full of supplies for any and every project, load up on materials needed to make every Pinterest-project on your board. Don’t miss their classes and camps offered at various locations by groups like Girls Rock Sewing (ages 8 and up).

Michael’s
Like Hobby Lobby, it is best to enter this mega-store for materials with a clear objective in mind. If your mini-me tends to get a case of the “gimmes” while shopping, consider going between 10 to 11:30 a.m. for their clever Kid’s Club (ages 3 and up, $2), where tots can engage in a craft while you shop.

The Atlanta Institute of Stitches & Crafts
The Atlanta Institute of Stitches & Crafts is a school for the modern crafter. They offer a wide selection of DIY classes, as well as Study Hall where students can sign up for private tutoring sessions. Cool Bonus: They have a Department of ManCraft where they offer specific classes just for men. (Think lifeskills 101.) Make sure to check out Craft Assembly which is a free craft night open to the public.
