A chill is still in the air, but hot and hazy days of summer vacation loom ahead. Perhaps your child has hoop dreams or wants to be an Olympic diver? Summer brings a whole host of sports intensive camps to the Atlanta area. We’ve rounded up those that lead the field, complete with opportunities for hands-on learning with professional coaches and college athletes. Believe it or not, many camps will fill by March or April—and some may already be booked. Now is the time to set your game plan so check out these camps where they are sure to have a ball.

Baseball

The Gym at Peachtree Presbyterian Summer Camps
This large Buckhead church has a great recreation program offering camps, sports leagues and more to the community. Their summer camp program features cheerleading, tumbling, gymnastics, indoor soccer, golf, basketball and even hockey. Most programs are offered for ages 5 and up. A few camps (like the adorable Sports 101 geared for tiny tykes) are even aimed for the pre-school set.

Peachtree Road United Methodist Sports Camps
Also located in Buckhead, this church recreational center offers an all sports camp and camps specifically focused on soccer, basketball, tennis, golf and gymnastics. Most camps serve children ages 4 and up.

Agnes Scott All Sports Camp
College athletes lead students ages 5-14 on a sports adventure each summer. The All Sports camp, offered weekly, explores a variety of sports including swimming. Kids 8 and up have the option of signing up for a week of intensive camp focused on basketball, lacrosse, tennis, soccer and volleyball.

Location: Agnes Scott College, 225 E. Dougherty St., Decatur, Ga 30030
Details:  Full-day ($190) and half-day ($140) options are available for the All Sports Camp. Aftercare and early care is also available. Camp hours are 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

 

Atlanta Hawks Camp
For your aspiring NBA superstar, the Atlanta Hawks offer basketball camps for boys and girls ages 6-14.  Campers hone their skills with experienced staffers and get an official Atlanta Hawks Camp jersey, a ticket to a future 2014-15 Hawks home game — not to mention special appearances from an Atlanta Hawks player, alumni or mascot.

Location: The camp is offered in Dunwoody, Suwanee, Marietta and Stockbridge at various locations. For details and dates, see the website.
Details: Camp hours are 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. $250 tuition. Space is limited.

YMCA

Emory Sports Camps
Emory University coaches, staff and student athletes offer a variety of specialized sports camps each summer. Options include baseball for ages 5-14, softball for ages 7-13, tennis for ages 5 and up, basketball for ages 6-16 and soccer for ages 7 and up. There’s also a volleyball camp for teen girls.

Georgia Tech Sports Camps
Georgia Tech’s athletic department hosts a whole slate of summer camps (some even with overnight options) led by coaches and their staff. Most are geared toward older kids, but some are available to kids as young as 6. Options include swimming, basketball, football, baseball, softball, golf, tennis and even pole vault camp.

Marist School Summer Athletic Camps
This northside private school offers a comprehensive summer camp program with camps specializing in baseball, soccer, football, tennis, swimming, running and lacrosse. Some camps and co-ed and some are organized by gender. Most serve children ages 6 and up.

Y

YMCA Summer Camps
With locations across metro Atlanta, you can always find youth sports activities at the Y. The Carl E. Sanders Buckhead YMCA offers a wide variety of sports camps including soccer, basketball, swimming, track and field and more. The Decatur-Dekalb Y also offers a wide variety including half-day camps for pre-schoolers.
