There are some things about winter you can’t avoid: short days, nose-nipping winds, tons of cold weather gear dumped in the front hall. Other things—like stir-crazy kiddos bouncing off the walls—are easily avoidable. We’ve rounded up 15 amazing learning centers catering to the small set in hopes of inspiring you to gear up and get out when the littles need to stretch their legs and imaginations this season. Peek through the album to find your favorite.

Children’s Museum of Houston – Houston, Tx

With 14 permanent galleries and exhibits, cafe, library and family learning center, we are bowled over by the 90,000 square feet of play available at the Children’s Museum of Houston. May we suggest starting at Kidtropolis, a play city built and run by kids from the ground up on a daily basis, and moving on to How Does it Work, where your budding scientists have access to a ton of hands-on experiments, like creating a roller coaster and sending messages via fiber optics. If there's still time, skip over to Yalálag, the mountain-side mexican village play set. It's one of the original museum exhibits, but was recently renovated for more hands-on cultural learning.

Recognized as one of the biggest and best family-friendly learning spaces in the United States, the museum celebrated 35 years of fun in 2015.
