Disneyland and LEGOLAND will no doubt be on the vacation wish list, but we’re here to tell you the following museums are giving amusement parks a serious run for their money. From tiny towns to giant locomotives, your kiddos will be begging to stay another day. Click through the gallery below to learn about our favorite spots from across the country.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Not only is the Children's Museum of Indianapolis the world's largest children's museum (it covers 29 acres), it might just be the coolest. The adventure starts before you even get inside, with giant dinosaurs trying to find their way into the building. The rotating temporary exhibits (ride a river of chocolate anyone?) are just as exciting as the permanent ones. Hang out in the tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Seti I, see the burial site of China’s Terra Cotta Warriors, and explore the Caribbean shipwreck of Captain Kidd—all while checking out a working archaeology lab and checking out artifacts used by Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones movies. There's also a not-to-miss NASA experience for anyone with stars in their eyes.
