In a go-go-go world, every mama appreciates a place that slows down, caters to her schedule, and recognizes what she needs to stay healthy and happy. That’s why Active Moms Club is such a hit with Chicago moms —and why it’s your Totally Awesome pick for best mom fitness resource for the second year in a row. This awesome resource provides Chicago moms with intimate and supportive prenatal and postnatal fitness classes that they can bring their children to. Founder Cassandra Hawkinson recently took the time to chat with us about what makes Active Moms Club awesome, what inspired her business, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations on being voted “Most Awesome” by your community! What do you think your customers value most about your business?
Cassandra Hawkinson: AMC is humbled to have won Red Tricycle’s Most Awesome award two years in a row. I believe our clients value the specialized prenatal and postnatal strength training we provide. They also value the size our classes—all classes are small so that moms get the attention they deserve and as a result our groups have also become communities. Best friends are made in our Club; feeling connected is really important as women enter motherhood.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
CH: I’ve been a personal trainer for over ten years and have always specialized in training prenatal and postnatal women. It was through working with these women that I discovered the need to offer quality fitness classes that women could bring their children to. AMC was born five years ago and we continue to improve and add new programs to fit our clients’ needs.
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
CH: I have discovered that running my own business is harder and more intense than ever anticipated. But I get through each day, each week, each month because I am following my passion. Follow your passion, and you can achieve greatness.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
CH: Life is a balancing act. I don’t know if I have perfect balance but I have enough to keep me sane. I remind myself daily, if not hourly that I cannot be a business owner, and a mom, and give both 100% simultaneously. Schedule time to work, schedule time to be a parent.
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
CH: My proudest moment as a business owner occurred when I was having a really rough week. After class, one new mom thanked me for my “dedication to moms and my passion for empowering and building a woman’s confidence.” I will never forget those words. She raised me up when I needed it, and made me very proud.
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
CH: Yes! As a special thank you for voting us most awesome, enjoy $20 off any prenatal or postnatal class. Use promotion code REDTRI20 at checkout. (Not applicable toward a previous purchase or personal training packages.)
