With skill, creativity and a certain genius that can only come from sleep deprivation, our local talents make goods for kids and babies, selling them on Etsy and in neighborhood shops. Want to meet a few? Click through our album to get to know Chicago moms (and one amazing grandma!) that craft everything from hair accessories to superhero capes to eco-friendly plushes.

Kathy Beymer of Merriment Design

Kathy is a multitalented crafter who provides free crafting tutorials, as well as sells printables for cards, labels and banners for parties. Her site, Merriment Design, guides you through the process of making your own baby travel blankets, flower bracelets, trick-or-treat bags and more. You can purchase her printables in her Etsy shop or on Zazzles. A longtime resident of the East Village, she loves to inspire, and be inspired by, her children, Elise (4) and Liam (turning 2 later this month). Kathy says that the most important goal of her business is to, "try to make things that look handmade, not homemade.”
