Uninterrupted conversation? Who knew that existed? Family time is swell, but sometimes it’s nice to line up a sitter to spend time in a kid-free zone. Whether you swap stories over a meal or bond while touring some of the city’s most architecturally significant buildings, we’ve rounded up low-key, sitter-worthy ideas for adult fun. Enjoy the sound of silence!

Spend an evening with your head in the stars

Grab your favorite guy or gal and swing down to The Adler After Dark series, which is exclusively for the 21 and over crowd. Things get spooky at the Planetarium on Thursday, October 19 (6 p.m.-10 p.m.) with Adler Afraid of the Dark, based on the 90s hit Are You Afraid of the Dark? that featured spine-tingling stories 'round the campfire. You and your sweetie will explore the dark side of the universe with special programs and talks from Fermilab, including virtual reality demos and activities on particle physics, dark matter and more. Dance the night away to the beats of Thriller and other Halloween classics on the dance floor, try special brews from partner breweries and conduct hands-on spooky science experiments. As a bonus, you'll be privy to a one-night-only showing of The Man from the 9 Dimensions, an award-winning full dome movie from Japan that takes viewers on a mysterious journey to discover “The Theory of Everything”.
