Lincoln Park Nannies Inc. just won a Totally Awesome Award for Most Helpful Childcare Agencies. We recently spoke to them about their experience as a business owner, the best advice they’ve ever received and more. Hear what they have to say below!
Red Tricycle: Your community recently voted you “Most Helpful Childcare Agencies” – what do your customers value most about your business?
Lincoln Park Nannies Inc.: Customers value our customized nanny placements and expertise. Every family is so unique and different. Working parents with crazy schedules or stay at home moms who just need extra hands. We have families who call us asking if their particular needs are too difficult or unusual and we always say no, because there is a quality nanny out there looking for a family just like theirs. I believe our personal customized approach is definitely what our clients value the most.
RT: What do you want people to know about your business that they don’t already know?
LPN: A lot of families that call us aren’t aware of our guarantee policy. Most agencies have a 3 month guarantee. When we tell them it’s 6 months they ask “is it really?” and we say yes.
RT: How did your business get started and what was the motivation?
LPN: My business was started through speaking with several different nannies that I already knew and connecting them with families. I lived in Lincoln Park for over 10 years and really became close with many parents and nannies which ultimately led to LPN. I love the neighborhood, surrounding neighborhoods, and I love our city. After speaking with several nannies that worked for other agencies and the complaints they had, I knew I could do a better job. I was also finishing up my degree at DePaul in Lincoln Park in Industrial/Organizational psychology so it was right up my alley. After many successful placements and word of mouth, the agency grew very fast.
RT: Tell us, what do you start your morning with: 1. coffee 2. tea 3. mimosa 4. water 5. all of the above.
LPN: Lemon water, and black coffee!
RT: What is the most awesome thing a customer has ever done for you?
LPN: I appreciate all of our clients. I am happy whenever they choose our agency and we get to work on helping them find a perfect fit! But the best thing someone has done is send flowers to the office for saving them in their nanny search!
RT: What is your biggest pet peeve as a business owner?
LPN: I don’t have many pet peeves! I guess you could say when a call isn’t returned on time or someone missed an email that should have been sent a long time ago. It can be annoying.
RT: How do you keep your stress levels down?
LPN: I meditate! I love just relaxing and meditating, breathing until stress or anxiety calms down.
RT: What’s your secret superhero power as a business owner?
LPN: I think my super power is being able to relate to all of my clients and I also really know how to keep calm in stressful situations.
RT: Tell us, what is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (as a parent or business owner)?
LPN: The best piece of advice is to always expect the best and trust your instinct. Especially when it comes to nannies. Sometimes they can look amazing on paper and know how to tackle an interview. But if there is something off, we don’t let them become a part of our agency.
RT: How about the worst piece of advice you’ve ever received?
LPN: I don’t think I’ve gotten bad advice lately!
