So, you like to sweat during workouts. Like that tough mudder/half marathon/kickboxing kind of sweat? And now that your bundle of joy is in the picture, you think you have to chillax a little, especially if you’re working out with baby. News flash! You don’t have to pigeon hole yourself into a yoga/stroller jogging/playground pilates box now that you’re toting a little one along for workouts. Here are five serious workouts that kiddo is welcomed to tag along with you to.
For Boot Camp…Baby & Me Boot Camp
Baby & Me Boot Camp is a baby friendly exercise class that is definitely a favorite of ours here at RedTri! Started by DC mom and longtime personal trainer, Karen Ringo. The class is a total body workout that incorporates resistance bands, body weight resistance, core work and interval training. The class vibe is so baby friendly that if your little wants to roam, Karen may pick them up and continue on with instruction. If your little one is older then bring a mat and let them join in on the fun! Classes are Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9am in the Edgewood Arts Center in Brookland. The first class is complimentary, $15 for a drop-in, and $125 for a 10-class pass.
For Intensity…Baby and Me MINTensity
Babies, bicep curls and burpees team up in this 40-minute high intensity class that you do with your bambino at MINT gym. The class focuses on giving the grown-up the best workout possible while ensuring that baby has a fun time, too. Don’t leave home without a carrier, swaddle blanket, and tons of water.
For Zumba-Inspired…Baby and Mombo
Baby And Mombo is a 45-minute high-energy babywearing dance exercise class designed by Bouncing Bambini founder/mompreneur, Amanda Holliday, where babies are wrapped in love while feeling the rhythm of their mamas/papas getting fit. All participants must have their postnatal checkup completed and be cleared by a doctor and must follow all safety guidelines regarding their carrier before attending this class. Fridays are located at Yoga Heights DC in Columbia Heights and Saturdays are located in Edgewood Arts Center in Brookland.
For Karate…D.C. Self Defense Karate for the Whole Family
Families who kick butt together stay together. At least they do at D.C. Self Defense Karate where the whole family learns the ancient Japanese art of Karate which emphasizes skill, discipline, fitness, virtue and leadership. Kids and their grownups can build muscle, sharpen mental awareness and gain self-confidence. Stronger bodies, disciplined kids, and a sharper mind? Where do we sign?!

For Hiking…Locust Grove Nature Center
If hitting a gym or a traditional class isn’t your idea of fun with your little one then maybe hitting a trail may be more your speed. Locust Grove Nature Center is a favorite among hiking families in the DMV. Known for its 1.4 mile trail with its gorgeous sites it may be the perfect activity for you and the fam this fall. A plus is the trail begins and ends at a park so gather up the water bottles, sweaters, and shades and hit the trail!
