You don’t have to live on a farm (even though Junior would love that) to eat like you do. Some of D.C.’s top chefs know that farm-to-table means more than just buying fresh ingredients; it’s being mindful of where those ingredients come from and preparing them as smartly and sustainably as possible. Hungry yet? Check out these delish farm-to-table restaurants, serving up everything from farmhouse soup to wood fired pizza, and then plan a night out with your kids.

Founding Farmers
Dedicated to seasonal and regional ingredients, Founding Farmers boasts farm-to-table comfort cuisine prepared in an eco-friendly way. If you’re looking to tap into your kid’s green sensibility, a visit to Founding Farmers might just do the trick. Tip: Choose the small, tapas-like dishes that make for perfect pint-size portions.

Kid Faves: Bacon-wrapped dates, baby cheeseburgers, fried green tomatoes, farmhouse soup and skillet corn bread (with honey, butter and sea salt).

Farmers Fishers Bakers
Owned by a family of farmers that are committed to using fresh, seasonal and regional products, Farmers Fishers Bakers features an eclectic menu that includes things like Open Range Meats, Authentic Field Tacos, and Farmer’s Style Pizza (made with softer dough for a heartier crust). Start the day with organic coffee and steel-cut oatmeal or brioche with chocolate butter (that should get the kids up!); or dig in for lunch and dinner with everything from seafood salads to jambalaya, to burgers all made with a passion for true food.

Kid Faves: The meatless bacon burger is something of a phenomenon. Get it and split it with your tyke.

Coppi’s Organic
Food doesn’t get much fresher than Coppi’s Organic, a Northern Italy-inspired gourmet pizza and pasta place where everything on the menu is made fresh daily. Their “Green Pledge” is to use only sustained sourced fish, local organic produce, grass fed and free range meats and poultry; they even use wind-powered electricity and low wattage light bulbs. Their wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta and seafood dishes are delicious, but definitely save room for dessert.

Kid Faves: The littles cannot resist the signature Nutella Calzone. Yes, that would be pizza dough stuffed with delicious chocolate hazelnut cream. There’s also homemade Gelato and Tiramisu.
