The wind in your hair, soaring next to birds, hurtling to the ground at 120 mph…skydiving sounds awesome (er, terrifying)! Either way, the feat is typically not family friendly–until now! iFly, an indoor skydiving facility, recently opened in Loudon County and it’s perfect fun for your daredevil–young and old.
Who can fly?
Kids of all ages – from 3 to 103 are welcome to take their turn in the flight chamber. But before anyone starts freewheeling and flipping, they have to watch a short – we promise – intro video that teaches them the signals flight instructors will use when in flight. Then its time to suit up (they have sizes for everyone, including our pint-sized 3-year-old) and get ready to fly.
Waiting for your turn in the flight chamber is almost (ok not really) as exciting as being in the chamber. You’ll see how you fly, what the instructors are like. Spoiler: they are mostly all calm and ready to jump…err fly.
Entering the flight chamber gives you the feeling of hanging out a car window traveling 100 mph except this time your suit and the way you hold your body (with the help of the instructor, of course) harness the wind power to keep you flying until you are actually, legitimately flying. It is the coolest feeling in the world. The iFly instructor is right next to you the whole time so there’s no safety concerns – just pure undulating joy radiating off of your face.
Each flight is 60 seconds, and your pint-sized flyers won’t be able to contain their excitement at actually getting to fly. Instructors work with kids to make sure they’re flying, laughing and having a great time. It’s an unbelievable amount of fun and a great way to spend some quality time with family. Flying around and around and up and down is an incredible experience that you really have to try to believe. The suits and instructors are designed and act in such a way that you really feel like you’re flying through the air.
Kids will keep begging to go back, and while the price is a little steep for an everyday adventure, the experience is the perfect setting to a birthday, great report card or other special occasion.
