Think you have the next Edison, Graham Bell, or Tesla on your hands? Let them get their tinkering fix at Bethesda’s new KID Museum, a hot spot to be that works to foster curiosity and compassion while empowering young ones to create and imagine new ideas. The best part? The “museum” is 100 percent hands-on—visitors do everything from experiment with wind tunnels and build robots to program computer games and construct cardboard skyscrapers.

What Is It?
Perfect for elementary and middle school kids (and the kids at heart), the Kid Museum offers tykes ways to interact and learn through technology, engineering, art, math and science. If the grand opening of this brand-spanking new educational mecca is any indication, every visit will feel like a mini science project. Families bopped to melodious beats via a kid-operated electronic Beat Station. Then they grooved on over to figure out how to light a bulb or just listened and touched their way through the place.

Please Do Touch
Using on-site activities during the weekends and pop-up events, Kid enables children to check out computer programming through Scratch, work light up clothing or simply while away the hours building a motor. What other museum offers that? The school-age set can also sign up for hands-on workshops in the Maker Space which focuses on engineering, digital media, art experiments and a whole lot more.

Plan Your Visit
The KID Museum is open on weekends from 10 am- 5 pm. Admission is $8 per person and off-street parking is free. In the future the Kid will move to a permanent location that frees up the lower level of the Davis library. But for now small ones can feel embraced and free to unleash their creative forces and build, invent and reshape their ideas into real-life robots and experiments.
