Have you ever been at the playground running after your little ones and thought, you know, adults need play dates just as much as children? Enter Play Date Junction (PDJ) in Elkridge, Md, a 4000 sq. foot open space, with a giant chalk board wall, climbing equipment, slides, and loaded with timeless toys like doll houses and trains. But, here’s the rub: PDJ isn’t just a space for kids to play, it’s also the spot for grown-ups to relax and meet up with their friends.
What to expect
Families sign in and then the children have lots of free play (parents grab a coffee or tea at the free beverage bar or greet friends). Kids usually park themselves in a zone that they love for 30 minutes or longer (books, dramatic play booth, gymnastics area, train station, etc.). Then, it’s time for arts and crafts and a snack, and, of course, more free play. This round about goes on for hours and children are free to choose their activities. Most families typically stay for an average of 2.5 hours.
Just show up
Play Date Junction has you covered. Junior can socialize, read, work on creative play, gross and fine motor skills, and be exposed to something new, all while you can enjoy a little conversation, play with your little one, or just sit comfortably with a good book.
In addition to the open space, PDJ offers activities and events for the entire family. Kid events include toddler age Yoga, and Music Together classes. For adults, be on the lookout for the “Parenting Less Emotionally” workshop. Family Date Nights are every Friday, and there are occasional Adult Only Date Nights with games, food and great conversation. PDJ can even help you plan a funtastic birthday party at their location, with vendors ready to help put a personal touch on your child’s special day.
Don’t shy away from this modern play space if you have an infant; there is an in-house Mothers Room for nursing with comfy chairs. Also, fell free to stay through lunch as outside food is allowed (even deliveries…hello, pizza!)
