Is Disney getting ready to make a brand-new live-action princess film? It looks like Sadé is possibly the next in a seemingly endless stream of live-action Disney flicks. So who is Sadé and, more importantly when will this magical movie hit theaters?
It looks like we’ll have to wait some (and by some, we mean a totally undefined amount of) time before getting to view this original fairy tale. So why the wait?
As it turns out, the movie hasn’t even started filming. Variety reports that Disney had bought a story pitch, from Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer, that focuses on a young African girl and her magical powers. Sadé, the main character, will reportedly use those powers to protect her kingdom from an evil force. But, given that the movie has yet to be fully scripted, those details could change.
Rick Famuyiwa, who directed Conformation and Dope, is currently slated to produce the film, with Scott Falconer executive producing. When can we expect info on a director, cast or possible release date? Ah, it looks like we’ll need a fairy tale-ish crustal ball to answer any of those questions.
With a steady stream of live-action remakes coming from Disney (Christopher Robin, Dumbo, The Lion King and Aladdin), the thought of an original live-action Disney tale is pretty awesome.
