Our tale is told through dazzling cirque, breathtaking ballet, and incredible acrobatics that will amaze, inspire and enchant the imagination of the young and young at heart, bringing out the awe in all of us.

Two stories of adventure and circus arts make for double the fun on a winter’s day: * Kasper and the Surprise - performed by Jana Zeller – Kasper, beloved hand puppet hero of Germany known for his stocking cap and audience-engaging humor, packs to go on a journey. The audience will become involved as Fritzi performs as the strong man and the high diver. He is shot out of a cannon into the audience, invoking the power of imagination, play, and ear-wiggling, scalp-tickling, heartwarming fun. “This is one of the finest, if not the finest, theater-related program for young children we have seen.” – Vermont Arts Council

Jean-Michael Basquiat and his unique, collage-style paintings rocketed to fame in the 1980s as a cultural phenomenon unlike anything the art world had ever seen. But before that, he was a little boy who saw art everywhere: in poetry books and museums, in games and in the words that we speak, and in the pulsing energy of New York City. Now, award-winning illustrator Javaka Steptoe’s vivid text and bold artwork echoing Basquiat’s own introduce young readers to the powerful message that art doesn’t always have to be neat or clean—and definitely not inside the lines—to be beautiful. Javaka Steptoe is an artist, designer, and illustrator. His debut picture book, In Daddy’s Arms I Am Tall, won the Coretta Scott King Award, and Jimi: Sounds Like a Rainbow (written by Gary Golio) received a Coretta Scott King Honor. LC Kids Storytime at the Atrium is presented in collaboration with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
