Nevada City, California (Appx. Population 3,100)

Go back in time—or at least feel like you have—with a trip to Nevada City, which is located in the Sierra Foothills (about two and a half hours from San Francisco). Here, leading up to Christmas you’ll see carolers, roving minstrels jugglers, costumed characters, and horse-drawn carriages meandering around the closed-to-traffic streets.
