Squaw Valley & Alpine Meadows — Lake Tahoe, Ca

You’ll find Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows situated about a five minute drive apart on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. These two resorts now share the same pass (a free shuttle between both mountains, too) and miles of terrain for both the beginner and advanced skier. New this year is their Teaching Tykes program, lessons for kids ages 3-6 and their parents that’ll give you the tools you need to get your kid on the slopes. Want to leave the teaching to the pros? At both mountains private and group lessons for kids begin at age three.

The Difference
Alpine Meadows has managed to retain its authentic allure–just stop for lunch at the mid-mountain Chalet, a Swiss-style lodge that’ll soon charm you into making it your new favorite meet-up spot. But, if your kids aren’t ready to the hit slopes or you’re looking for a family-friendly après atmosphere visit Squaw where you’ll find ice skating, dog sledding, snow tubing and a Village that you can easily spend all day exploring.

Good to Know:
If you’re looking to schlep your family’s gear the shortest distance possible, Alpine Meadows’ lifts are right at the base of the mountain. At Squaw you’ll need to take the Funitel up to mid-mountain to access the majority of the runs.
