Whether you’re a major Star Wars fan or your kiddo has “forced” you into watching the movies a zillion times, you know the distinctive Wookiee roar that is Chewbacca’s noise of choice. Well, now it’s your turn. Roar for Change is Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Force for Change’s new initiative. And we’ve got the scoop on what it is and how it’s helping others!
So what is Roar for Change and how does it work? To start with, it’s a global challenge to support UNICEF. All you need to do is roar like Chewie. Oh, and post your roar on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with #RoarForChange anytime between right now and May 25, 2018. And yes, that is also the release date for Solo: A Star Wars Story. For every public post, like or share of your best Wookiee roar, Star Wars: Force for Change will donate $1 to UNICEF (up to $1 million).
If you’re thinking, “One million dollars. Really? How could a few social media posts featuring Wookiee roars actually raise that kind of cash?” Well, it already has. The initiative started May 3 and by May the Fourth (a.k.a. Star Wars Day) #RoarForChange had already hit the million-dollar mark. Yay!
Thank you for participating in the #RoarForChange challenge! In a little over 24 hours, you helped Star Wars: #ForceForChange U.S. donate $1,000,000 to @UNICEF USA to support children around the world. Although we've hit our donation goal, you can still share your photos & videos online with #RoarForChange to continue celebrating the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story. No additional posts or likes will trigger any more donations.
Even though Star Wars: Force for Change has already reached their $1 million donation goal, you can still continue to post roars on social media in honor of the soon-to-be-released Solo.
