Step down into the basement of this Pacific Northwest family home and you’ll find way more than meets the eye. What was once a basement den filled with leather couches and a fireplace is now transformed into a brightly lit, whimsical playroom that looks like it jumped out of the pages of one of our favorite glossy magazines. The genius behind this remodel? Seattle-based supermom Asia and her husband. Living in Seattle, Asia and her hubby decided that their daughter and her soon-to-be sibling would need a place to play during the long and wet Seattle rainy season that didn’t require wrestling the kids into the car and driving across town. But how does one go about transforming an entire den into a playroom filled with rock walls, gymnastics rings, a LEGO table, a pretend kitchen area, and a brick-encased magnet board? We caught up with Asia and asked her exactly how she was able to pull off this incredible DIY makeover. We’d just as soon never leave our house if we had one of these rooms in our basement.
Since Asia and her husband are a can-do DIY couple, they tackled almost every aspect of this room remodel themselves. The dark walls and hardwood floors were the first thing to go. Despite being 27 weeks pregnant, Asia helped her hubby with the removal of the old flooring, much of which had been damaged by the previous owners' pets. After a fresh coat of paint and some new carpeting, Asia and her team went to work filling the space with all the toys, activities, and play areas that any 3 year old could ever dream of.
We’re beyond impressed with all of the hard work and inspiration that went into this project. With so many great features packed into one great space, it’s no doubt that this playroom will offer countless opportunities for learning, exploring, and of course, play as their kids grow. Feeling inspired? This remodel was part of a series of renovations that Asia and her husband did; check out their other awesome projects–a Reading Room and an Art Room.
Which of these ideas would you include in your dream room remodel?
