Disneyland might be a magical place, but those lines definitely aren’t. Wait times have increased significantly at the theme park in recent years, but a new study offers a few tips and tricks on how to avoid the wait.
The Los Angeles Times recently analyzed data collected from Touring Plans on Disneyland and found that wait times at the park were up 28% since 2015. The longest wait was found at Radiator Springs Racers, which has a whopping 86 minute average wait time. Other popular rides included Space Mountain at just over an hour wait, Toy Story Mania! at 48 minutes, and Peter Pan’s Flight and Star Tours both clocking in at 41 minutes.
Based on the data collected, the LA Times found that the busiest times coincided with specific days of the week, seasons and times of day. In order to have the shortest wait, the report suggests visiting on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. September or January were the best months, and visitors should definitely avoid going during holidays, like Christmas and Halloween.
It’s also helpful to get there early; if possible arrive at the park before it opens so that you’re ready to walk in the gates the second they open. Making an optimal choice for your first ride is also key. The rides with the longest waits, like the new Guardians of the Galaxy or Radiator Springs Racers should be your first stop. If you stay at one of the Disneyland hotels, that also buys you an extra hour of early entrance to the park before it’s open to the public.
Utilizing Fast Passes and downloading the Disney Parks app, which updates wait times regularly throughout the park are great ways to cut down on waiting as well.
