If a waterfront view is on your family’s wish list for your next home and you’re a fan of tiny living, then why not move into a lighthouse. For less than the price of a new car, you can enjoy unobstructed panoramic views.
The US General Services Administration is currently auctioning off lighthouses in Michigan with bids starting as low as $10,000. A lighthouse might not seem a like a traditional place to raise a family, but if you’re looking for adventure and a life off the beaten path, this could be a dream come true.
There are a few strings attached if you happen to be the lucky winner of these auctions. Firstly, while you will be the owner of the lighthouse itself, the land it sits on will still be government property. The bigger caveat, however, is that the new owners must be willing and able to repair and renovate the lighthouses to bring them up to code as livable spaces.
As of this writing the auctions on five of the six lighthouses are still open with the lowest bid at $10,000 on the Poe Reef Lighthouse in Cheboygan, Michigan. For all the listings check out the auction site here.
