Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome.” What do you think your customers value most about your business?

Ceilidh Willow Yurenka: My clients seem to love the way I interact with their babies in such a calm and gentle manner—I have been called the baby whisperer on more than one occasion!  And, of course, they love the final product—gorgeous photos of their favorite people!

RT: What inspired you to start your business?

CWY: I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, but it wasn’t until I had my son’s newborn photographs taken that I realized exactly what I wanted to do—specialize in capturing tiny new people as they are just joining us in the world, and working closely with parents to get amazing photos of their favorite little people.

RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?

CWY: If you have a non-business background, find yourself a few good mentors or teachers to help you figure out all the “business-y” parts.  And hire yourself a good CPA or business consultant.  Also know that you will spend way more time than you ever imagined working on building and growing your business.  So you must LOVE what you are doing, and have an absurd amount of desire to make it work.

RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?

CWY: When my pretty picky eater of a 3 year old said to me the other night, “Momma.  I want you to make me broccoli trees for every dinner I eat.” That basically blew my mind.

RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?

CWY: Two 5x7s and one 8×10 for free with their session purchase if they mention Red Tricycle! This is a $75 value!
