School’s out for summer! Bring on the kid-friendly fun with these local activities that prove Los Angeles is indeed the land of opportunity. From beaches to baseball games and farmer’s markets to art festivals, fill the lazy days of the season with these sunny adventures!

1. Zuma Beach
No summer vacation would be complete without a trip (or multiple trips!) to the beach. Lucky for LA families, an array of beautiful beaches reside close to home. We love Zuma Beach because it’s just a bit off the beaten path (19 miles north of Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway), and therefore more relaxing than the typical tourist trap shores in Venice and Santa Monica. You’re also very likely to catch a sighting of majestic dolphins at this locale, and if you arrive early in the day, will have no trouble parking in the large lot that services this dreamy destination.

2. Dodger Baseball Game
Another quintessential LA summer outing: a Dodger Baseball game! Kids can “root, root, root” for their home team, while enjoying concession treats and learning about the old-fashioned sport while having a classic good time. Check out the Dodgers Kids section of the team’s website to learn how little ones can become big fans.

3.  Farmer’s Market
We all know how beneficial it is for kids to eat their fruits and veggies — and picking out their own produce at farmer’s markets enables tots to meet farmers and gain an understanding and appreciation for how and where food is grown before it lands on their dinner plate. Two of our favorite kid-friendly farmer’s markets: the Santa Monica Main Street Farmer’s Market on Sundays from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm, which, in addition to fresh fare features live bands, pony rides, and a petting farm, and the Larchmont Village farmer’s market on Sundays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, which is sized perfectly for families with tiny tykes in tow — not too big or overwhelming, and shopping along Larchmont Boulevard is an added bonus.

4.  Grease sing-along at Hollywood Bowl
Tweens and their nostalgic parents will get a big kick out of the Grease sing-along at the Hollywood Bowl. Friday, June 24th at 7:00 pm, get decked out in duds inspired by the film and join the costume parade, then get ready to roll with a pre-show giant screen viewing of the beloved film. At 8:30 pm it’s time to belt out the tunes and take part in the 50’s sing-along which is hosted by Frenchy!

5.  Children’s Festival of the Arts
This August marks the 26th annual Children’s Festival of the Arts. Details for this event are still coming together, but judging from last year’s schedule, it’s sure to be a hoot for kids and tots. Music, dance and puppet performances, and activities that include painting your own masterpiece, getting your face painted, and visiting with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck will make this experience memorable, inspiring and educational.
