Some mom bloggers make us jealous with the way they mix baking and parenting skills. You know that picturesque kitchen with a kiddo gently sifting the flour or mixing liquids (and their kitchen doesn’t look so shabby afterwards)! In between the cracked eggs and wasted sugar, we know how difficult a successful baking experience can be. But no reason to get heated over spilled milk! Duff Goldman, Food Network’s Ace of Cakes star, pulls one of the cleverest bakeries out of the oven to answer your envy. It’s Color Me Mine, without the waiting time, and delightful, salivating results.
Cakemix, which opened recently, will be the Willy Wonka of cakes shops. The experience is combination of salivating delight and creative craftiness. You and your little one can choose from chocolate, vanilla, marble, carrot, red velvet or the daily special and then have an art attack with the decorations. Top your cake with sprinkles, sugar flowers, or jelly beans. Use paint brushes to draw your favorite character or build one using the all-so-popular fondant.
There will be two dozen stores unfolding out across the nation, but you get to say you got it first! Here in Los Angeles – right on Melrose Avenue, there’ll be 10 tables with 40 decorating seats. For the mom and pops more keen on tasting than testing, there’s a small café that offers cake (of course) and coffee. Or bring home a decorating kit (pictured above) – this kind of mess is nothing one swipe of Bounty can’t touch.
For $18 (4 cupcakes) or $36 (a whole cake), this experience looks so much tastier (and cheaper) than a movie night out.
Not to miss: A glass-enclosed airbrush station to do what Duff Goldman does best – edible airbrush tattoos!
