Fun fact: Griffith Park is over 5 times bigger than NY’s Central Park. With hikes, zoos, museums, beer (!), trains, playgrounds, ponies, golf, a carousel and lots more (all costing very little or nothing at all) it’s time to click through the slideshow and discover a baker’s dozen of the coolest places you just might not have visited in our gigantic urban forest.

Time for Tee!

Sure, you already know all about all 3 golf courses at Griffith Park. They’re beautiful, well maintained and inexpensive. They’re also 9 & 18 holes, and far too long for your little duffers to try out. (Even the 4th course, the par 3 Los Feliz, is a bit too big for a newbie.) But did you know about the Tregnan Golf Academy? This beautiful little 3-hole par-3 course is nestled in the hills, and is dedicated to teaching urban kids all about golf. Kids 3 & up can take affordable lessons with seasoned pros, or parents and kids can participate in family golf lessons together. You can also practice by hitting balls from the driving range or on the putting greens & practice courses during open practice time for just a few bucks.

Bonus: Even if you’re not a golfer, it’s worth the short winding drive up to the academy for sweeping views of the river and hills and to see the wildlife – coyote, deer, bunnies and birds all love the green grasses of the golf course.
