The city of Pasadena is kicking off its 125th Anniversary celebration this month, and the festivities will continue throughout the summer and into the fall. Now is the perfect time to discover and explore all the fun activities bustling locale has to offer. Most Angelenos make the short trek to Pasadena to experience the Tournament of Roses New Year’s Day Parade, but there are so many other reasons to take the kids on a day trip here! Read on for the best spots to stop!

Go: Year-round.

Approximate travel time: Pasadena is located only 11 miles north of Los Angeles.

Where to visit: Kidspace Children’s Museum is an amazing destination for children to experience hands-on, educational play. Daily activities include art, music, storytime and nature explorations, and the museum is ripe with interactive programs where kids may dive in and discover two acres of outdoor exhibits, dig deep to unearth fossils and learn about bugs, get a bird’s eye view of the museum from the climbing towers, and much more. If your tykes are still full of energy after the museum, head to the Pasadena Ice Skating Center. Walk-in lessons are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Families with sleeping babes in strollers may enjoy a stroll along One Colorado in Old Town Pasadena. This sophisticated outdoor shopping excursion is a relaxing way to wile away an afternoon and get some fresh air. If your trip extends into evening hours, enjoy a free summer concert at Levitt Pavillion, which run June 22-August 28th. Children’s night is June 22nd, featuring The Bob Baker Marionettes.

Possible lunch spots: Delight your kiddos’ palates by noshing on a gourmet hot dog at Dog Haus, where sausages and burgers are also on the mouth-watering menu. Fried eggs, avocado, and tempura fried onions are among the toppings available to customize your meal. Save room for a fresh baked ‘cookies and cream’ cupcake at Dots Cupcakes.

How to dress: Seasonally appropriate, comfortable walking shoes. If participating in the activities listed here, kids will probably be most comfortable in pants or jeans.

Bonus: Don’t miss the Americafest at Rose Bowl Stadium on July 4th. This fun and patriotic event will include a family variety show, marching band, motorcycle stunts, fireworks and more.

Cost of trip: Moderate
