If you’re driving down Lincoln Blvd, keep your eyes peeled and don’t even think about blinking because if you do, you might miss the newest gem Venice has to offer: boy + girl. This kid’s clothing label with a cult following has finally opened their first brick and mortar store. Read on to discover more about your new favorite clothing store. (Yes, they have a small but growing adult line, so you can shop for the whole family!)

Boy + girl has done its share of pop-up shops and is sold in some of the trendiest boutiques worldwide. With a concept fit for Abbot Kinney, you may wonder how this much-anticipated storefront ended up on Lincoln, and according to owner and designer Christine Chang, there’s a good reason: she wants to be somewhere that can be discovered. Right by the giant Whole Foods, where every local parent shops, the store embodies the free-spirited nature of boy + girl.

Boy borrows its influence from California surf and skate culture while girl lends itself to a more European sensibility. Both capture the soulfulness and sustainability of clothing designed and produced locally. So you can feel as good buying them as you do wearing them. Loose, soft (so soft!) and comfortable, this line features adorably wearable yet fashionable rompers, harem pants, kimono tie shirts, dresses and more.  They’re the clothes your kids will wear over and over, without either of you tiring of them.

The store itself is an oasis of calm, featuring unfinished concrete floors and exposed ceilings. There’s an effortless and airy quality to the design that is inspired by a mix of Japanese, Navajo and California aesthetics.

Throw blankets sporadically adorn bare white walls; 50 shades of blue, blush pink and cream are peppered throughout. There’s a cooling and calming effect. Though rambunctious toddlers seem immune so take extra care around the home goods/pottery table.

The boy + girl collection consists of toddler and kids sizes 2-12, as well as a women’s capsule of dresses that epitomizes California luxury. The women’s capsule is expanding and just in time for the holidays, so you can shop for the women in your life in the store, and then men in your life online (the website offers men’s super soft and casual hoodies, t-shirts, shorts and shirts).

Whether you’re buying for your kids, yourself or gifting to (a lucky) someone, you know that at boy+girl you’re getting the very best in style, comfort, and local craftsmanship.

The store is open daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Parking spaces are available in the back, but it’s best to enter through the front door.
