Ditch the TV: 6 Live Theater Shows for Kids

When people think of California, we think great weather and Hollywood, the city of lights, camera, and action! Great acting and live performances begin and end here. But when was the last time (or first time) you took your kids to watch a real live theatre performance? We know what you’re thinking…that they’ll never sit through that. A little one sitting through a live performance filled with orchestral music? Sounds a little far-fetched, but you will believe it once you see it for yourselves. We’ve found some fun theatrical shows that are geared toward little audiences: total sitting time is trumped to 45 minute shows, an instrument petting zoo to familiarize the kids with the instruments, and kid-friendly themes like The Little Engine That Could. Just think it’s Disney on Ice, without the ice, cheaper tickets, and you’ll be supporting the local arts!

Pacific Symphony Family Musical Mornings
The Pacific Symphony has set aside kid-friendly and interactive performances called “Family Musical Mornings” for kids ages 5-11. All ticket holders have access to a Musical Carnival either before or after your show where the kids can interact with the musicians, performers and even test- drive instruments at the instrument petting zoo. All shows are about 45 minutes with no intermission and here are the upcoming shows for this Spring:

Cinderella, March 23
The story of Cinderella is told through life-sized puppets to the music from Prokofiev’s famous ballet.

Under The Sea, May 4
Music from The Little Mermaid as well as Debussy’s La Mer are showcased to paint the picture of underwater sea life.
