Hopefully the heat wave subsides in time for some of our favorite outdoor festivals and activities taking place this weekend. Catch a jaw-dropping juggler, take in an outdoor movie, hit up the Echo Park Rising Festival or one of two (!) Japanese festivals taking place (we couldn’t decide which one so why not hit up both?). Juggling with Michael Rayner
“Juggler-in-Peril” Michael Rayner, returns with his interactive—and hilarious—act, which includes balancing a wheelbarrow on his head! He’s joined by comedy magician extraordinaire Dana Daniels, teamed with his Psychic Parrot Luigi. Outdoor Movie: The Sandlot (25th Anniversary)
LA’s premier outdoor movie event, with the largest inflatable movie screen on the west coast (and 100% dog-friendly,) is showing The Sandlot (rated PG) at La Cienega Park in Beverly Hills. Sat. Event details.
Echo Park Rising Festival
Music, art, food & fun, all centered around one of LA’s hippest and fastest rising neighborhoods. This neighborhood event in its 7th year that focuses on the music, creativity, diversity and small businesses of Echo Park. There are multiple stages and activities throughout the weekend located on the main routes of Sunset Blvd., Glendale Blvd., Alvarado Ave. and Echo Park Ave. and beyond. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
Natsumatsuri Family Festival
It’s the annual summer celebration featuring Japanese and Japanese American performances, crafts, and activities. There will be face painting, origami folding, souvenir photos at the happi coat photo booth, karaoke, bon odori, samples of saataa andaagii (Okinawan deep-fried pastries), taiko drumming and loads more! Hear Cowboy Musicians & Poets
Join musicians and cowboy poets as they perform stories and songs of the romantic Old West, contemporary music of the American West, and songs of the open range and the American cowboy. (And don’t forget to poke through the Autry first, starring in your own western, working in a Chinese restaurant and panning for gold.) Sun. Event details.
Nisei Week Japanese Festival
It’s time for the Annual Nisei Week Foundation Japanese Festival, a celebration of Japanese and Japanese American heritage throughout southern California. Participate in these nine days of cultural and community celebration. Taste delicious food and various cuisines, see colorful displays in a variety of artistic mediums, listen to traditional and contemporary music while witnessing traditional and contemporary dance forms, cheer for athletes on the field and the martial arts floor, and shout for joy as the Nisei Week Grand Parade (on August 20) cascades right in front of you! “Fancy Nancy” Themed Play Date
