There’s Gold in Them Thar Pans…
Eureka! Discover the myths and realities of the California gold rush, and try your hand at panning for gold at an outdoor re-creation of a miner’s panning station. Weekends at the Autry Museum, included with admission. Sat.-Sun. Event details.

See the Stars (at the Planetarium)
Free public star parties are held monthly at Griffith Observatory with the assistance of volunteers from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society, the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers, and The Planetary Society. They are a chance for the whole family to look at the Sun, Moon, visible planets and other objects, to try out a variety of telescopes, and to talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment. Please be aware that the astronomers and telescope demonstrators must cut off the line for each telescope to enable all viewing to be completed by 9:45 p.m. Fri.-Sun. Event details.

Touch-A-Truck
See, touch, explore and honk the horns of favorite trucks and emergency vehicles serving the Malibu community. Trucks on display will include construction trucks, emergency vehicles and more. Kids of all ages are invited to explore the trucks and meet with the operators to discuss the work they perform. Hullabaloo at McCabe’s
Come sing and dance with San Diego’s favorite kid-friendly band! McCabe’s Guitar Shop welcomes Hullabaloo to the stage for its debut Sunday morning concert of 2018. BTS of Real Locomotives
Go “Behind the Scenes” at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, where volunteers operate, maintain and restore the West’s largest collection of vintage rail cars. At this annual all-day event, visitors get special access and tours of locomotives, passenger and freight cars, streetcars, interurban electric cars and artifacts dating back to 1870.

Behind the Scenes coincides with Steam Weekend so you’ll see a real steam locomotive in operation and get to ride behind the powerful VC #2. Admission includes unlimited rides on other classic passenger trains and streetcars of Southern California’s railroad past. This gated event supports museum operations and the continued restoration of historic rail cars and rail line. Admission is free to members! The Blue Angels program gives children and teens the opportunity to ski or snowboard the local mountains with friends and other snow sport enthusiasts in a fun, yet structured environment. Open to all ability levels, from first-timers to experts, the program consists of five full Saturdays of professional coaching taught by resort instructors, lift tickets, luxury bus transportation, constant adult supervision, lunch, snacks, and sponsor goody bag.
