the scoop:

The Friends of the Los Angeles River (FOLAR) invites everyone to come out for a work-party down by the river!  Most people have never seen the LA River, but it’s a fascinating and historical part of the city and it needs our help.  200 years ago, it was a lush and green flowing river, right through the hart of the city, and was LA’s only water source.  In 1938 there was a flood that took 85 lives and caused millions in damages, and concrete channels were built to prevent that happening again.  Today, efforts are underway to re-green the river, and you can help. 15 sites, 3 days, one river.  Check the website to see what sites are getting cleaned up which day, and to sign up for a clean up effort today!
