the scoop:

Looking at sculptures of the Buddha from Burma and Thailand in LACMA’s collection, discuss the eight commonly used mudras (hand gestures) and their symbolic meanings. Each mudra represents protection and fearlessness, enlightenment, meditation, compassion, and knowledge.

Everyone who takes part will create an outline of their hand to replicate one of the mudras. The characteristics of the selected mudra will be highlighted through color using liquid watercolor, found imagery, and collage paper.
