In celebration of its 80th Anniversary, the North Patio at Union Station will be transformed into a family fun zone including a Griffith Park Travel Town activity corner, a Giggle Factory play zone and a kids’ concert series featuring a workshop from Rhythm Child along with performances by Angel Bird and Jazzy Ash. Celebrate the museum’s 25th anniversary and its strong connection to Hollywood with this new exhibit, in collaboration with the ComicCon Museum, Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy. On May 4th, you are invited to the exhibition’s preview night, where you’ll experience the 100’s of stories and artifacts prior to the public opening. The night will be elevated by live entertainment, an immersive augmented reality experience, gourmet appetizers, and cocktails. Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy explores cult classic films and stories that have envisioned fantastic futuristic worlds, technologies, characters, and cars. Through props, design drawings and physical vehicle models this exhibit brings pop culture’s visions of dystopian, utopian, and science fiction worlds to life. Sat. Event details.

Brooklyn’s annual photo festival, Photoville, is bringing its magic to Los Angeles for the first time in its seven-year history. Located outside in Century Park adjacent to the Photo Space, PHOTOVILLE LA (created and produced by United Photo Industries) will feature exhibitions of local and international photographers in repurposed shipping containers, photo cubes, and light boxes transformed into interactive galleries for Angelenos to explore. The festival will take place across two consecutive long-weekends and will include nighttime projections, talks, workshops, family-friendly activities, and Photoville’s famous community beer garden. The distinctive festival provides a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse audience and creates a veritable cross-section of the world’s photographic community. Fri.-Sun. Event details.

Westside

Join the Fairview Library for activities celebrating Free Comic Book Day and May 4th Star Wars fun. First, drop by any time of the day to get a free comic book and to make a superhero puppet (while supplies last). Then at 2:00 pm come for a screening of an episode of Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles and stay for a Lego design challenge. This free 60 minute program will be held in the community room and is for children 5-10. The Fairview Library is located at 2101 Ocean Park Blvd. Sat. Event details.

Creating Arts Company is proud to present a stunning new adaption of the classic Grimm fairytale of the girl with magical golden locks, Rapunzel. Cheer for the Prince and Boo for the mean witch Gothel who has locked the beautiful Rapunzel high atop a tower. Will Rapunzel escape the tower and learn she’s a Princess and find her way back to her rightful mother and father, King and Queen Windsor? This is a Creating Arts Company Pint Sized Play and is a one-hour interactive-cinematic-theatrical experience like no other that is sure to delight children and their families ages three and up! Sat. Agoura Hills

The City of Agoura Hills invites you to enjoy a free movie under the stars! Snacks available for purchase. Movie begins at sundown. Be sure to bring a blanket and chairs! Sat. Event details.

Worth the Drive

The Great Park Balloon is the Orange County Great Park’s iconic attraction. With the ability to hold up to 25–30 passengers and soar 400 feet above the surrounding landscape, it serves as a public observation deck for the Great Park’s development and offers an unmatched 360° view that spans 40 miles on a clear day. AMALUNA invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth, and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.  In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island, triggering an epic, emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith, and harmony. Fri.-Sun.
