Pamper Your Little Piggies: Spots for a Mommy & Me Mani-Pedi

This little piggy went to… the nail salon? Hey, anything goes in LA–and many a kid, celebrity status or not, has been known to join mom for a mani/pedi in this town. Jennifer Garner is photographed on a regular basis taking her daughters to get their nails done, and Gwen Stefani even takes her sons with her to indulge in tandem manicures. For a fun Mother’s Day outing, or anytime (hey, summer sandal season is around the corner!) take your mini-me along for a grown-up outing where you can both treat hands and tootsies to a little shine.  Check out one of our favorite spots around town that cater to kids while pampering parents.

Color Me Green Nail Boutique
This eco-friendly nail boutique in Manhattan Beach is a relaxing haven where only the finest products are used. They carry natural, non-toxic polish lines including Zoya, Spa Ritual (which is also vegan), and a water soluble collection of polishes called Piggy Paint for kids. All of their lacquers are free from harmful chemicals including Toulene, Formaldehyde and DBP. Their “Purity” manicure/pedicure service for kids, includes soaking of a little one’s hands and feet in bubble bath that boasts extracts of chamomile and aloe vera. After this soothing soak, kids will receive a massage with a delicate blend of apricot, orange, lavender, and rose infused lotion.  Moms-to-Be and Nursing Moms should check out the “Breathe” service which bears in mind the sensitivity to smell most women experience when pregnant and postpartum. Kids services range from $12-$26.

Plush Beauty Bar
This baby and kid-friendly salon was co-founded by mom Kathryn Grady, when she realized that there were no salons that catered to mothers with their children in tow. She said, “I didn’t feel like children were welcome in most salons—plus I didn’t want to expose my baby to the harsh chemical fumes of acrylics and other nail products.” Plush Beauty Bar has a play area where little ones can hang out while moms get their nails done. Free bubbles are provided to keep them occupied, and there’s a roomy bathroom with a changing table and free diapers for added convenience. If your baby’s not the type to be put in a corner, kids 8 and younger can opt for their “Kiddie Finger/Toe Polish” service for $9, or either a Kid Mani or Kid Pedi for $10 each. Plush uses Hopscotch brand nail polish, which is especially crafted for kids. It’s not only safe and non-toxic, it’s 100% biodegradable too.

Stop in one of these spotless shops (they were founded on the idea that cleanliness & friendliness are the ultimate virtues in the nail biz – no arguments from us germ-a-phobes!) and get a Kid-i-cure for just $9. A Mom-i-cure is available for pregnant (or all-natural moms, or those of us who constantly pull things out of our kids mouths and like to keep our hands toxic-free!) which includes all kinds of relaxing, eco-friendly treatments for your fingers or toes.  Or get the regular mani or pedi, and you can request  Ginger and Liz nail polish at no extra charge. (This vegan & non-toxic line features the coolest colors, and that’s a combination we’re awfully fond of.) They host kid birthday parties too, for your little Fancy Nancy who dreams of a Spa party.

Local Tip: Want to host a painting party at home?  Our favorite of the non-toxic options just-for-kids is Piggy Paint.  There are loads of kid-shops in the LA area that carry the brand and you can cull colors and pick the perfect paint!  Find the closest store to you here.
