Ice scream, you scream, we all scream for the Museum of Ice Cream! Opening April 22 (for a limited time only) in downtown LA’s bustling arts district, the sweetest museum around celebrates a love of ice cream and provides the perfect place to bring families together purely for the sake of fun and imagination. Their first pop-up in New York City last year sold out in just five days; now the Museum of Ice Cream is poised to be a huge hit on the West Coast and we’ve got the double dipper scoop. Here, You’re Encouraged to Play With Your Food
Founded and creative directed by Maryellis Bunn, the Museum of Ice Cream features a parfait of whimsical multi-sensory exhibits and installations that are designed for kids and adults who just want to feel like kids again. Basically, think about any wild ice cream fantasy you had as a child—it probably looked a lot like this place. Almost every installation has been totally re-imagined for LA, from an interactive banana split exhibit comprised of 10,000 bananas and a mint “grow house” to a melted popsicle jungle and the iconic sprinkle pool filled with one hundred million sprinkles that guests can swim around in. In other words, this day at the museum is anything but vanilla.
Dreamy Creamy Tastings
What would a visit to an ice cream museum be without actually getting to taste some? The Museum of Ice Cream has curated the best selection of ice cream around and throughout its residency will feature a “scoop of the week” on rotation from California’s most coveted creameries. Look for Cali legends like McConnell’s, Salt & Straw, Coolhaus and CREAM among some of the standouts. Guests will also get to sample a special mochi ice cream tasting from My/Mo Dove Chocolate.
Take The Experience Home
Ice cream’s a treat that tantalizes all the senses, so the museum worked closely with scientists at International Flavors and Fragrances to heighten guests’ olfactory and taste experience during their visit by developing delish ice cream inspired scents and flavors. Some of these are showcased among 30 shopable ice cream products you can take home yourself, including custom sprinkles, scoopers, kadima and even a ping pong table!
Hours: The Museum of Ice Cream runs April 22–May 29. Open Wednesday–Monday from 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Closed on Tuesdays. Visits are asked to take about 45 minutes to get through everything, so even antsy little ones should be fine.
Tickets: Tickets are on sale beginning Monday, April 3. General admission includes two curated ice cream tastings and surprise edible treats. Adults cost $29 per person and $18 for children (aged 3-12) and seniors (60 and over).
