Lupita Nyong’o isn’t just an awesome actress. She can now add children’s book author to her resume. Okay, so the book isn’t exactly out yet (sorry, you can’t get it right now). But it will be available…umm, in January. Of 2019 that is. Yeah we know, it’s a long time to wait. Then again, good things do come to those who wait. And even though you and your kiddo may have a year to go before reading Nyong’o’s new book, it’s totally going to be worth it.

The book has a pretty rad message — to be comfortable in who you are. It’s set to focus on a 5-year-old Kenyan girl who isn’t happy about her dark complexion. The girl, Sulwe (which is also the title of the book), goes on an adventure, only to awaken with a whole new sense of beauty.

The message in the story isn’t a new one for the actress. Nyong’o herself has felt self-acceptance issues surrounding her own appearance. Even though she’s now a famous actress, and is considered one of the most beautiful women in the spotlight, Nyong’o certainly hasn’t forgotten what it feels like to have a less than a perfect self-image.

It’s this feeling that her new book attempts to squash. While it might be a children’s book, Nyong’o writes, on Instagram, “This is a story for little ones, but no matter the age I hope it serves as an inspiration for everyone to walk with joy in their own skin.”
