Mamas, you have the market cornered when it comes to family leave after having a baby. Sure, women need time to recover. And we all want time to bond with our babies. But that’s not saying dads don’t want, or deserve, the same thing. Well, one very famous daddy is doing what plenty of papas dream off — taking an entire month off for paternity leave. So who is this now-on-leave daddy? None other than Mark Zuckerberg!
Zuckerberg took to Facebook (umm, of course) on Dec. 2 to announce his paternity plans, writing, “I’m going on parental leave for December to be with August and Max, so you’ll hear from me a little less.” The Facebook CEO also posted, “We have a couple more Facebook and philanthropy announcements this year and then I’ll see you all in 2018!”
Prior to baby August’s birth, the tech titan announced that he would take paternity leave. His planned leave will total two months, but come in two separate installments.
This isn’t the first time that Zuckerberg has taken time off after becoming a new father. When daughter Max was born in 2015, the billionaire also took two months of paternity leave. Before you start thinking that Zuckerberg is using his CEO status to take time that other workers might not get off, Facebook has a generous paternity policy for new dad employees. Recognizing that working parents need some time off to bond, Zuckerberg (and Facebook) offers employees four months of maternity and paternity leave. What a perk!
