They might play Bad Moms on the big screen, but in real life Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn are totally crushing the whole mom-ing thing and they have their own moms to thank for some great parenting advice.

A Bad Moms Christmas opened in theaters last week and the movie’s leading ladies sat down with People to talk about the experience. All three women are moms in real life and all of them have received some great parenting advice from their own moms, which they were happy to share.

“My mom said, which is what my Grammy used to say a lot, ‘You can be anything, but you can’t be everything,’” shared Kristen Bell. Explaining that its important to speak up when you’re feeling overwhelmed and it’s okay to ask for help.

Mila Kunis’ mom also had some sage wisdom, “I was holding [daughter Wyatt Isabelle], she was maybe two days old. And my mom was just looking at her, and she goes, ‘Oh, would you look at that? She’s peeing,’” Kunis told People. “And I was like, ‘How do you know?’ It was because of her daughter’s face. “Her nose flared, and this little part turned white. And my mom was like, ‘You can just tell.’” From that point on, Kunis explains that she always knew when her kids were peeing.

Hahn had two pieces of advice her mom bestowed on her, “One was, ‘The days are long and the years are short,’ . Another one was, ‘When you’re in doubt, don’t.’ Which is just good life advice, I think. If you’re waffling, there’s a reason.”
