If your little explorers have ever wanted to know what it’s like to encounter a great white or explore the depths of the ocean, now they can. All without even knowing how to swim. Thanks to National Geographic’s immersive, virtual reality experience your family can explore the open ocean without getting wet.
National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey is an experience unlike any other. Visitors will be able to walk through the 60,000 square foot space much like a regular aquarium or museum, but instead of fish in tanks, you’ll be surrounded by floor to ceiling screens that will give you an up-close and interactive encounter with humpback whales, squids, sea lions and yes, even great white sharks.
Combining new, state-of-the-art technology with the creative vision of Emmy- and Grammy-winning artists, the exhibit is unlike anything that’s ever been done before. Besides the massive projection screens, you’ll also encounter holograms, interactive touchscreens, photo areas and games centered on conservation.
The walk-thru exhibit, which will be debuting in Times Square, doesn’t open until October 2017, but tickets are already going on sale July 11. They can be purchased online; $39.50/Adults, $32.50/Kids (ages 6-12) and free for the under 6 set.
