How does your family watch TV? Chances are pretty good that Netflix is at the top of your list. A new study shows that Netflix is the most popular way to watch TV in America.
Wall Street firm Cowen & Co. recently conducted a survey of 2,500 U.S. adults to determine how most people consume video content. In answer to the question “Which platforms do you use most often to view video content on TV?” Netflix was the number one answer with 27 percent of respondents selecting it above other methods. Twenty percent chose basic cable as their top pick, 18 percent broadcast television and 11 percent YouTube.
For households that subscribe to pay-service TV, like cable and satellite, Netflix came in as a very close second to basic cable with 24 percent choosing the streaming platform and 26 percent cable. However among the youngest demographic of 18 to 34-year-olds, Netflix ranked high above the competitors with 40 percent saying it’s their number one way to watch.
With Netflix providing nearly 500 hours of original programing in just a single quarter in addition to the acquired content, its not surprising that audiences are tuning in to the platform more than ever. In just one year, however, Disney will debut their own streaming platform, removing their family favorites from Netflix—so it remains to be seen if Netflix keeps that crown for long.
