Calling all fans of the classic cartoon, She-Ra: Princess of Power: Netflix just dropped a first look at the new She-Ra! Yep. The iconic ’80s cartoon heroine is back and she’s just as powerful and awesome as we remember—but the “Princess of Power” herself doesn’t exactly look like the Princess Adora we grew up with. And that’s totally okay with us.
Way back in the mid-80s the the toy company behind He-Man decided little girls needed a “He-Man” of their own, but like—girlier. And thus, She-Ra was born. The Princess of Power was every bit as superhero-esque as He-Man, resulting in a serious run of success.
Well now you don’t have to revist reruns—and neither does your kiddo! Netflix has come up with an all-new She-Ra for all-new viewers.
The upcoming series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, is a reboot that finds the series’ star separated from her family, raised on another planet and adopted by an evil overlord. Yep. She-Ra thinks that evil is good and good is evil. Verrrry interesting.
Even though the storyline differs from the original, the same journey to heroism plays a large part in the reboot.
And the magical narrative isn’t the only thing that’s changed since the 1980’s. Don’t expect to see a superhero who looks identical to the original. The new version of the classic character is styled a bit more like popular anime characters of the moment. But then again, this is a reboot—and not an exact copy of the original. Sometimes we all need a little change—even She-Ra!
Look She-Ra and the Princesses of Power streaming on Netflix starting Nov. 16.
