Just because you live in the city doesn’t mean you can’t get up close and personal with animals of all kinds. From goats on weed-control duty and wild parrots, to stellar petting zoos great for little ones and an Upper East Side gem, you don’t need to go far to get wild. We’ve rounded up the best places in the city to talk to (and often touch!) the animals. Click through to find your critter connection!
Prospect Park Goats
The goats are back! These four-legged friends are helping rid Prospect Park's woodland area of invasive plant species. This Sunday, head to the Lefferts Historic House for "Fun on the Farm" to learn how sheep's fleece is transformed into wool, and celebrate the return of the goats to the park. Take part in a parade to the Prospect Park Zoo to watch a sheep-shearing demonstration, and collect fleece for washing, carding, spinning and felting at Lefferts. A special self-guided tour will be available to see the resident goats at work!
