If you live downtown, you’re most likely familiar with Citibabes, the one-stop shop in SoHo for all kinds of kids’ needs: enrichment classes, parties, camp, preschool, mommy & me classes and more. What you might not know is that after 12 years in its Mercer Street location, Citibabes is on the move to a new space in Tribeca — and with the move comes some changes and fresh offerings.

Smaller Space, Better Layout
Currently occupying the entire third floor of a building on Mercer Street, Citibabes will make its new home at Tribeca’s 142 Duane Street, where it will occupy the whole building. The new digs, built out to the growing business’ specifications, are actually a few thousand square feet smaller, but the new building provides a vastly improved layout and new opportunities for Citibabes.
The most notable is that due to its new first-floor entrance, the Citibabes preschool alternative program, Citischool, will now be a full-blown, licensed preschool with a full day running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Early drop-off at 8 a.m. and extended day pick-up at 6 p.m. will also be offered, as will current programs running from 9 a.m. to noon and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Spanish and Mandarin immersion classes are offered as well.
With the building scheduled to be completed in November of 2017, the first class of new Citischool students will begin the year on Mercer and transition to Duane when the paint is dry. Hard hat tours of the new space will be given to families as the space nears completion and safety allows. (If you’re still looking at preschool options, enrollment for the program in the new space is happening now.)
Now spread out over four floors with large windows at both the front and the back of the building, the new space will house classrooms on the ground floor upper levels, toddler care on the ground floor and a tumble room and spaces for enrichment classes and parenting workshops in the basement level.
The Citibabes Difference
Catering to families with kids ages two months to five years, Citibabes promises families individualized attention, and works to set itself apart from other schools and enrichment spots by mapping out a child’s developmental journey from infancy to preschool years.
It’s also different in that families using the space pay a membership fee. Families enrolled in Citischool (in any form) pay $60 a month for unlimited access to facilities— such as the tumble room and indoor play area— and events; those that are not pay $80 a month. Members also receive discounts on parties, classes, events, etc.
More of the same, and some new stuff too!
Citibabes will continue to offer birthday parties, a full slate of enrichment classes (art, music, mommy & me, ballet, yoga, etc.), after-school classes, summer camps, all of which are open to non-members.
In addition, Citibabes will be introducing more mindfulness and yoga into both the school curriculum and classes offered outside the preschool.
