Not Your Average Flower Shop
As fashionable as its lower east side locale, Flower Girl NYC creates edgy, yet romantic floral arrangements. While the offerings for kids are new, the shop it not; owner Denise Porcaro has producing beautiful bouquets at the downtown location for 14 years. Kids’ parties might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you see the flowers here, but look closely and you’ll find an aesthetic kids can really wrap their heads around — or, more to the point, a floral headband they can.
Because each arrangement created here is unique, loose and decidedly not-perfect, kids can learn to create here without feeling judged, and can have a great time doing it. There’s a whimsical quality to the beautiful blooms, which pairs perfectly with the types of projects kids can make here.
Looking for a fun baby shower idea? Porcaro has plans to host parties for adults, too. “I have always had the idea to host parties, and I think being creative to both adults and children alike is so important,” she says.
Projects Full of Posies
Everyone loves a little floral DIY, especially when you get to take home your creation. Projects range from flower crowns to wilderness wands to building terrariums and posy bouquets. Children 10 and up can also make flower arrangements for an additional cost. Have a flower project or theme in mind? The Details
Parties are held on Sundays in one of two time slots: 11a.m.-1p.m., or 3-5p.m. Each celebration includes a 35-minute guided activity, the child’s name in flowers to take home, and all the utensils you need for food and beverages, as well as set-up and clean-up.
Parties are $700 for six kids, and $45 for each additional child. Flower Girl NYC can assist you in finding kid-friendly vendors to supplement the party with food, beverages and sweets.
