NYC continues to get hip to the need for more places where parents can work while kids play (with supervision). Coworking with childcare can be a key component to making it all work for freelancers/consultants/entrepreneurs who also happen to be parents. Two fresh spots — one, returning, but in a new location — and another, bringing coworking to an established neighborhood kidspace, are here to help!
CoHatchery Returns! Now in Williamsburg
Park Slope parents may be familiar with CoHatchery. The coworking spot, founded by Wendy Xiao and Susann Friedrich, held a summer session in Park Slope last year.
This summer, it’s Williamsburg parents that win, with CoHatchery setting up shop in the bustling, increasingly family-packed neighborhood. In addition to childcare and a desk (the workspace is being built out as we speak) clients also get free wifi, printing capabilities, coffee and other workplace essentials.
More Than Just Free Play
While there’s nothing wrong with your child just having supervised fun with toys and other kids while you finish that pressing work, CoHatchery raises the bar a bit higher.
The coworking space has developed a Montessori-inspired curriculum in partnership with c’e Montessori, the school that will house the work and play operation for the summer.
The program, designed by early-childhood experts on staff, is geared towards children six months to four years old. It offers Montessori-style mixed-age classrooms and smaller, age-based learning groups. The collection of multi-dimensional learning experiences covers areas ranging from language and literacy, math and reasoning, creative development, science, social and emotional development and beyond.
CoHatchery Williamsburg will run from June to September 2017, with a morning session offered from 8 a.m. to noon, and an afternoon session taking place from 1 to 5 p.m.
Parents can book one to five days a week, with rates beginning at $310 for one day and $1250 for five. See more on rates here: cohatchery.com/williamsburg

A Place to Play is Now Also a Place to Work
Giocare Play Spot is many things to its community of Park Slope families: Pre-school, Pre-k, play spot, birthday venue and more.
Now, it’s adding yet another resource to the mix: coworking space with childcare.
How it Works While They Play
This new program will give parents an opportunity to work while their children are playing supervised in the open play room. The office space provides shared, open workstations, high-speed Internet/wifi, basic office materials, coffee/tea, etc.
In an adjoining room, one of Giocare’s experienced educators will oversee children for open play, while also engaging the kids in various activities such as small art projects, group play and story-time.
Coworking with childcare available Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the venture is currently in pilot mode to assess community needs and demand. (Bargain alert!: Giocare is running an introductory rate of $20 dollars per hour for the month of April.)
We love coworking with childcare! Do you know of a spot we missed? Tell us in the comments!
