New York City Kids Weekend Events: Aug 24-26
There are only a few weekends left to sneak in summer fun. So head to Central Park this weekend for a lesson on reptiles or nosh as you listen to live music at the Hudson River Park Blues BBQ. Head to the outer boroughs for even more fun. Before the US Open begins, you can bring the whole family out for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day. In Brooklyn, choose from a kids concert, a delicious Taste of Brooklyn festival or a historical day celebrating the Battle of Brooklyn anniversary.
Wildlife in Central Park
Eco-education and multi-cultural family fun come together for A Clearing in the Forest programs. Today’s program will introduce kids to a variety of reptiles with all of the cold-blooded, scaly, and egg laying abilities thanks to the wildlife educators from the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center. Hudson River Park Blues BBQ
The annual Blues BBQ Festival is on! Take the kiddos to hear some awesome blues bands from across the country and taste tidbits from NYC’s finest BBQ restaurants, all while enjoying a summer day riverside. Sat., 2:00 pm. Midtown. Free. All ages. Event details.
Taste of Brooklyn
The Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s annual Taste of Brooklyn foodie fest includes a variety of workshops run by local Brooklyn cooks and restaurants. You’ll be encouraged to play with your food and taste it! Participants this year include: Sun In Bloom, Brooklyn Swirl, Super Foxy Sweets,Tasty Kids, and Annie Mae’s Cheesecakes and more. Battle of Brooklyn Anniversary
Today marks the 236th Anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn and a range of celebratory activities are on tap at the Green-Wood Cemetery. At 10:00 am there will be a historical trolley tour – reserve a spot here. At 12:30 pm you can catch a revolutionary war re-enactment at Green-Wood’s Meadow at the Gothic Arch. At 1:30 pm you can enjoy a parade and a commemorative ceremony will take place at 2:00 pm. Sun., 10:00 am. Greenwood. Free. All ages. Event details.

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day
Just before all the excitement of the 2012 US Open begins, Arthur Ashe opens up for an event-packed kids’ day. See the pros practice, play interactive games, participate in skills sessions and enjoy juggling, face painting, Mario Tennis on Nintendo 3DS, storytelling, ATP player autographs and more.
