Looking for something fun to do this weekend? We’ve got a variety of family-friendly activities for you. There are three great reasons to push bedtime back on Friday night – a free concert in Central Park from the New York Philharmonic, a bat viewing adventure, and a showing of Kung Fu Panda at Hudson River Park’s Pier 46. Central Park Bat Walk
Did you know a plethora of bats live in Central Park? At dusk they leave their warm spots under roofs to feed on flying insects. Members of the New York City Bat Group will lead you on a walk through Central Park to find and monitor these bats. Register at least one week in advance, enrollment is limited. Fri., 8:30 pm. Philharmonic in Central Park
Enjoy a free outdoor concert from the New York Philharmonic directed by Alan Gilbert. Pack a picnic, get there early to secure a spot and listen to the tunes under the stars. Fireworks to follow the concert. Fri., 8:00 pm. Central Park. Free. All ages. Event details.
Princess & Pirate Cruise
Climb aboard the Queen of Hearts ship for a fun-filled family adventure on the Hudson River. Take in views of the NYC skyline and the Statue of Liberty while enjoying plenty of kid-friendly activities including: face painting, magic shows, balloon sculpting, live music and arts and crafts. City of Water Day
Celebrate the NY-NJ Harbor with City of Water Day. You’ll see hundreds of kayakers, canoers and sailors taking to the water and enjoy free boat tours. Venture to Governors Island for a bevy of children’s activities including arts and crafts with aquatic themes, fishing for laminated fish cut-outs, learning how to save water, interactive recycling games, face painting, a bounce house and a touch tank filled with underwater creatures. Skate Truck NYC
Want to go roller skating, but don’t have a pair? No problem! The Skate Truck NYC will rent inline and roller skates (youth size 8 through adult size 12), safety equipment and lessons for all ages run by internationally accredited skaters. Note: Kids under 7 years old will need to provide their own helmet to rent skates. Fri., 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Park Slope. $15 for 2 hours, $20 for 4 hours, or $25 all day. All ages. Event details.
