Looking for a few new ways to milk those last hot days of summer before the kids head back to school? We asked Red Tricycle’s New York City writers to share their favorite ways to spend a summer day in the city with their kids. Flip through our photo book to see their awesome adventures. Then, add a few of these fun activities to your summer bucket list and check them off before fall weather arrives.

Anna Julien - Visit the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens

One of my absolute favorite New York City summertime destinations is the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (990 Washington Ave.). The 52-acre oasis features 13 gardens and 5 conservatories including the Aquatic House, Bonsai Museum and the Tropical Pavilion. The best part about visiting the garden with kids, aside from escaping the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, is the freedom to roam, explore and play in the beautiful grassy lawns. You can walk the lovely garden grounds, lounge in the shade of the trees, picnic or eat lunch at the café, or sign up for one of the many kid classes, workshops and family walks. I spent Mother’s Day at the garden this year and had such a lovely time watching my daughter, now 17 months, hone her walking skills and explore one of the most beautiful spots in all of NYC!
